Château Cambon

St Jean d’Ardieres & Corcelette, Beaujolais

2018 Beaujolais

From average age 50-year-old Gamay vines all hand-harvested. Whole clusters undergo carbonic maceration for 3 weeks with natural yeasts in fibreglass tank. Some pumping over might be used to stimulate activity. All wine moved to very old foudre to rest on lees. Bottled with little to no SO2. Simple classic natural Beaujolais winemaking at its best! Always elegant with bright red fruits, delicate florals and whole bunch herbs. The palate is usually stamped by a fresh mineral vein underpinning ripe red fruits. This is one of the most consistent wines in Beaujolais. Always delicious, fresh and balanced.

2015 Beaujolais ‘Le Cambon’

‘Le Cambon’ is a cuvee that is only made in certain years when the old Gamay vines perform brilliantly – super rare. 100% Gamay fruit that comes from the two oldest parcels - 100 and 80 years old.  A dusting of light oak over red fruits with a lovely rich texture on the palate. The wine is pure and deep-fruited with a sweet core and sanguine minerality underlying. The wine finishes on a spicy note with gripping acidity. Plenty of potential to age for a decade plus.

2017 Brouilly

Predominantly from the granite plateau of the lieu dit Briante to the east of Mont Brouilly, with the balance in Grille-Midi in Brouilly (not Fleurie) where it is more blue rock similar to Cote Brouilly. Grown according to biodynamic practices. Whole clusters of Gamay undergo carbonic maceration for 3 weeks with natural yeasts in fibreglass tank. Some pumping over might be used to stimulate activity. All wine moved to very old foudre to rest on lees. Bottled with little to no SO2. Simple,  classic natural Beaujolais winemaking at its best! The nose opens with aromas of strawberries, ripe red cherries, rose petals and raspberries. The palate continues with the fruit core indicated by the bouquet, plus red plums and cranberries. The mouthfeel is soft and elegant with an intense lingering mineral core that is mouthwateringly delicious; the glass empties very quickly. This is a bargain compared to its peers.

2020 Jean-Claude Chanudet ‘La Cuvée du Chat’

This little side project from Chateau Cambon winemaker Jean-Claude Chanudet is produced from the original vines of Jules Chauvet, THE Godfather of natural winemaking in Beaujolais and France. The vines are located between Chenas and Saint Amour in the commune of La Chapelle de Guinchay. It is all about macerated strawberry with dark spices on the nose. The palate moves into darker fruits, but with the usually bright dancing acidity expected from Beaujolais. Refreshing with a great mineral note and fine pithy cherry stone tannins, designed to be enjoyed young. Textbook natural Beaujolais in a slightly darker more structured expression.
