Domaine Bruno Sorg

Eguisheim, Alsace

Domaine Bruno Sorg was established in 1965 by Renée and Bruno Sorg in Ingersheim and later moved to Eguisheim, where it can be found today. The Domaine was established on the simple philosophy that estate grown fruit is the only way to ensure that 100% potential of the vineyard is achieved, so no grapes are bought in from other sites as is increasingly common in France today.

The Sorg's have well situated vineyards, many with old vines. 50% of their holdings are shared among three famous Grand Cru; Florimont - high acid citrus fruited styles; Pfersigberg - supremely mineral, famous for its Muscat; Eichberg - richest exotic Gewurztraminers.

The vineyards are managed in a sustainable fashion to ensure all the nuances of the different sites are best expressed, and many species of flora and fauna coexist with the vines. Yields are low with the focus being on rich fruit, concentration, intense flavour and fine structures. The styles tend to be drier than the norm in Alsace but naturally the vintage has the last say, although Francois Sorg, second generation winemaker, prefers to produce dry styles.

These wines are mostly sold direct to long term private clients and are rarely seen outside of Alsace. Despite the small production of around 5,000 cases and strong demand, prices are still reasonable.
