Lapati Wines

Sagarejo, Kakheti

Lapati Wines was born in 2015. Directors Vincent Jullien and Guillaume Gouerou met a few years before at Art Villa Garikula, an art centre in Garikula village north west of Tbilisi,  thanks to their friend Karaman Kutateladze. Vincent was there to make his first natural sparkling wine, using grapes from the villa and Guillaume was there as a resident artist. He was invited by the international festival of contemporary art " Fest i nova ", which is held at the centre every year in September. Their sometimes-over-subtle discussions slowly made their way towards a common desire to realise a long-lasting project.

The aim was to make wine from local grapes in a natural and eco-friendly manner, using the ancient art and techniques of qvevri by combining their knowledge and money.  It took a while to find the perfect place to establish the marani, but eventually Lapati Wines settled in a former house in the heights of Sagarejo, in Kakheti during August 2015. Vincent and Guillaume strive to make fresh enjoyable wines that combine both traditional Georgian and European winemaking techniques, with a French touch.

Their focus of production is pet-nat which have been named; ‘Kidev Erti’. This means ‘One More’ in Georgian but it also sounds like ‘Qui Divertit’ in French which means ‘What Entertains’.
