Ének Peterson

Freya’s Marani

Persati, Imereti

Ének Peterson, a young winemaker from America, began making wine in Georgia as an experiment using grapes from Niki Antadze, but was so taken by winemaking she quickly found herself a small vineyard and became a vigneron. She specifically found a vineyard that was small enough that she could do all of the work herself, so it would not be necessary to hire other people to work in the vineyards. She is extremely minimal intervention. All her wines are bottled in recycled glass bottles and she hasn’t cut the grass in the vineyard for 5 years!

She works independently in her winery in Georgia’s western Imereti Region, while managing at Tbilisi’s popular wine bar Vino Underground as well. Located in the mountainous area near Baghdati, the winery experiences Imereti’s fertile humid subtropical climate and rests west of the flowing Khanistskali River.

Ének cultivates all grapes with traditional Georgian methods and remains environmentally conscious as well, harvesting her vineyard organically. She is a self-taught speaker of the Georgian language.
