Marie Lapierre & Jean-Claude Chanudet

Château Cambon

St Jean-d’Ardieres & Corcelette, Beaujolais

Chateau Cambon was the joint venture of two of Beaujolais’ most famous natural wine families – Marcel and Marie Lapierre, with Jean-Claude and Genevieve Chanudet, plus Genevieve’s father Joseph Chamonard. In 1995 they bought the then bankrupt estate situated just south of Morgon on flat land. Originally planted in 1914, some of the original vines still exist and are used in exceptional years to produce a few barrels of Le Cambon. Today Marie Lapierre and Jean-Claude Chanudet manage the domaine. Meeting up each year is a brief highlight of our annual trip to Europe as the two dear old friends trade stories and jibes and play beautifully off each other.

For us the wines resemble a Lapierre with pronounced minerality, well-defined bright red fruits and a soul of earth, whole bunch complexity and sometimes a light funk. The characteristic they share the most of is PURE DELICIOUSNESS. This is one of the great secrets of Beaujolais.
